Everything imaginable that could leave the ground was thrown helter-skelter onto the Air Plaza's mock runway.  Like a giant garage sale, vintage and modern air planes, kites, balloons, parachutes, gliders and inflated sculptures were displayed around or suspended from a 30-metre-high tower.

Boeing was kind enough to allow Expo 86 to borrow a nose from a 747 jet (picture available on the "Pink Zone" index page) to display at the fair.  Other highlights included the Pearce Arrow which some people claim flew before the Wright brothers made the headlines.

In an adjacent hangar, vintage aircraft too delicate to be left outside sat alongside unusual planes that were being assembled on the fairgrounds.
