Saskatchewan

A ten storey tower combining elements of a prairie grain elevator with the workings of a potash mine rose above the Saskatchewan Pavilion.  Clad in mirrored copper and silver coloured glass, the tower was symbolic of the blend of urban and rural life in the province.

The tower housed two elevators.  One showed the workings of a grain elevator while whisking visitors 32 metres above the site to an observation deck.  On the way down, the other elevator simulated a descent into a potash mine deep below the earth's surface.

Inside the pavilion, some Saskatchewan "firsts" were displayed.  A vehicle called the "Mileage Maker" was a wold-record holder for fuel efficiency at the time.  The story of the Saskatchewan people was told through a wide-screen film and live performances.

The art of "wheat weaving" and wooden toy-making were among the many demonstrations.
