Combining the International Year of Peace with the Communications theme of Expo 86, "Peace Through Communication" was the theme of the United Nations Pavilion.
Entering the pavilion, the earth was seen devoid of flags or boundaries. This was a reminder of a "common humanity" and that people have the ability to become truly united in a quest for peace.
Depending on the time of day, several audio-visual presentations were featured: "Island in Space" kept the pavilion's theme. "It can't be done" was a humorous look at human creativity and explored the misguided predictions of past scientists.
"Speaking your Peace" was a video booth set up for children to record their hopes and fears regarding future war or peace.
