FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF GERMANY PAVILION "World in motion -- World in Touch" was the theme of Germany's pavilion. Exhibits included a facade of the Anhalter-Bahnhof rail station from which a 25 ton, 15-metre long scale model of the country's magnetic levitation train (called the Transrapid) was kept. Also displayed were speech-recognition vehicles for the disabled, automobiles, motorcycles, powerful trucks and track-guided Duobus. As an example of co-operation between science and environmental protection agencies, a ship capable of suctioning spilt oil from the surface of the sea was brought over to Expo for demonstration purposes. Germany's co-operation in space technology was also displayed through schematics of their Space shuttle framework design. HIGHLIGHTS -- The Duobus
at the entrance
to the pavilion can be operated by either diesel fuel or electricity
and
can travel on rail tracks or on tires. |
