VIA RAIL EXHIBIT VIA rail celebrated Expo's transportation theme by displaying the Dorchester, a replica Canada's first locomotive built in 1836. Also on display was the "millionaire train", a luxury coach built in 1929 and restored by the Cranbrook Railway Museum. For the children there was a mini train pulled by an 1860 style locomotive and Canada's most modern rail passenger vehicle in 1986, the LRC, was on display. Mime performers told the story Canada's railway past in a humorous and unexpected way. OK. the VIA Rail exhibit was not exactly in the Purple Zone. It was located in the newly refurbished train terminal across from Expo's East Gate. |
